What does a Google Workspace partner do?
A Google Workspace partner sells and manages your subscription, and usually helps you set up and run the account. The specific services vary by partner, but they commonly include:
- Setting up your subscription, edition, and billing plan.
- Invoicing you, often alongside migration, support, or other IT work.
- Making license changes when you hire, lose staff, or change editions.
- Helping with Admin console settings such as security, sharing, and email authentication.
- Acting as your first point of contact and escalating to Google when needed.
Google Migrations has been a Google Cloud Partner since 2013, and licensing is part of how we support teams after a move. For the basics of editions and pricing first, read the Google Workspace plans and licensing guide.
Does buying through a partner cost more?
It depends on the partner. Some partners charge Google's list price for licenses and bill separately for services. Others bundle services into a single per-user rate. Neither model is wrong, but you should know which one you are paying for.
Ask for a written quote that separates license costs from service fees. Compare the license line against the current list prices in our guide to Google Workspace pricing. Also ask whether the partner offers both annual and Flexible billing, because that choice affects your cost as much as the partner does. See annual vs Flexible plans for the trade-offs.
What should you ask before choosing a partner?
Ask questions that show how the partner will treat you after the sale, not just during it. A short list:
- How long have you been a Google Cloud partner?
- Who is my contact, and how do I reach them?
- How do you handle support requests, and when do you escalate to Google?
- Are license costs and service fees shown separately on the invoice?
- Which billing plans can I choose, and how do license changes work mid-term?
- Will I keep super admin access to my own account?
- If I leave, how do you help move my subscription to another partner or back to Google?
A good partner answers all of these plainly. Vague answers on billing, admin access, or how you would leave are a warning sign. You should never feel locked in to a partner just to keep your own account running.
If you also need help with the move itself, ask how they handle migration and support and training after the switch.
Do you lose control when you buy through a partner?
No. You keep ownership of your data and your super admin access. The partner manages the subscription and billing relationship, and you stay in control of users, settings, and content.
Some partners also ask for delegated admin access so they can help with settings. That should be a choice you make, with clear limits, not a condition of buying. You can remove a partner's access at any time from the Admin console.
Keep at least two super admin accounts inside your own organization, even when a partner helps you day to day. That way, a staff change on either side never locks you out of billing, security settings, or user management.
If you already buy directly from Google and want to switch, nothing about your data moves. Our guide to transferring your subscription to a partner explains the steps.

Frequently asked questions
Can we switch partners later?
Yes. You can move your subscription from one partner to another, or back to Google directly. Your data stays where it is during each move. Before you switch, check how your current plan term and renewal date will be handled so there are no billing surprises.
Do we still get support from Google if we buy through a partner?
Usually your partner is your first point of contact and escalates issues to Google when needed. This gives you one place to start. Ask any partner how they handle escalations and how quickly they respond, so you know what to expect.
